YRCTI’s Party Secretary Zhou Baoping and A Delegation Visit New Zealand and Australia

From July 6 to 13, YRCTI’s Party Secretary Zhou Baoping led a delegation to visit New Zealand and Australia. They visited the Unitec Institute of Technology, UUNZ Institute of Business, the University of Auckland, Albright Institute of Business and Language, and Sydney Polytechnic Institute, and held in-depth discussions with these institutes on talent cultivation, faculty and student exchanges, and research collaboration, aiming to establish cooperative relationships with universities in New Zealand and Australia. Relevant personnel from the Liaison and Cooperation Department, the School of Surveying and Mapping Engineering, the School of Mechanical Engineering, and the School of Business and Management also participated in this trip.

At the Unitec Institute of Technology, Zhou Baoping and the delegation held talks with Peter McPherson, Dean of the College of Engineering, regarding educational cooperation between the two universities. Zhou Baoping introduced YRCTI’s history, development achievements, and international cooperation situation, particularly focusing on the introduction of high-quality international educational resources. She expressed hope that the two universities can strengthen cooperation in fields such as surveying and mapping engineering, environmental engineering, and mechanical engineering, providing a broader platform for the development of young people from both countries and contributing to the educational cooperation between China and New Zealand. Peter McPherson warmly welcomed Zhou Baoping and the delegation and provided an overview of the Unitec Institute of Technology. He noted that the two universities share many similarities in terms of development background and specialty construction, which lays a solid foundation for cooperation, and that he looked forward to carrying out comprehensive cooperation in specific fields with YRCTI. Then Zhou Baoping and the delegation observed the class instruction of the experiment and practical training. Through this visit, both universities reached a consensus on cooperation in engineering talent cultivation.

At the UUNZ Institute of Business, Zhou Baoping and the delegation met with President Chen Jinming to discuss vocational education cooperation in business specialties and the establishment of overseas training bases. Both sides introduced their respective education situations and ongoing collaborations in the business field, focusing particularly on the achievements of China’s vocational education universities to construct overseas Bailie Training Bases. Zhou Baoping emphasized that “vocational education going global” is an important direction for the development of vocational education in China, and that YRCTI has made effective explorations in establishing the Dayu School overseas. She also hopes to enhance the international influence of China’s vocational universities by building cooperative vocational education platforms in New Zealand.

At the University of Auckland, Zhou Baoping and the delegation held discussions with Professor Aiguo Patrick Hu from the College of Engineering and Professor Manfredo Manfredini, Director of the Department of Architecture, and visited the Industry 4.0 Smart Manufacturing Systems Laboratory. The two professors highlighted the progress and application prospects of wireless charging technology and emphasized the critical role of supercapacitors in energy storage and transmission. Zhou Baoping expressed that YRCTI is committed to introducing advanced international research concepts and technologies to promote the development of relevant specialties. She also hopes that the two universities can collaborate on smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0 technologies to apply advanced wireless charging and supercapacitor technologies to water resource management and hydraulic engineering, contributing to the sustainable development of the water conservancy industry.

At the Albright Institute of Business and Language in Australia, Zhou Baoping and the delegation held talks with Vice President Siding Luo on cooperation in business specialties such as marketing. Both universities exchanged information on their respective overviews, talent cultivation characteristics, and international cooperation projects related to the business specialties, and reachedacooperation intention on course introduction, student degree enhancement, faculty training, and corporate employee training.

At the Sydney Polytechnic Institute, Zhou Baoping and the delegation held in-depth discussions with President Lisa Carrick around cooperation in specialties such as mechanical design and manufacturing and industrial robots. Zhou Baoping expressed her gratitude for the warm reception of the Sydney Polytechnic Institute and introduced YRCTI’s development of mechanical engineering-related specialties. Lisa Carrick provided an overview of the international cooperation projects in science and engineering specialties of the Sydney Polytechnic Institute, as well as the approaches to curriculum development and faculty training. Then both universities reached a cooperative intentiononjoint talent cultivation and student exchanges. Zhou Baoping and the delegation also observed the class instructionatthe Sydney Polytechnic Institute and visited the library and teaching facilitiesatthe University of Sydney.

This visit coincides with the state visit of President Xi Jinping to New Zealand and the 10th anniversary of China and New Zealand establishing a comprehensive strategic partnership.In addition,Premier Li Qiang and Minister of Education Huai Jinpeng have just concluded their visits to New Zealand and Australia, withthepurpose ofcomprehensively enhancingeducational cooperation and cultural exchanges with both countries. YRCTI’s visit to New Zealand and Australia represents a concrete action to implement the agreements reached by the leaders of China and New Zealand, as well as China and Australia, on educational cooperation, and an effective practice of the coordinated development of “going global” and “bringing in” strategies in vocational education, holding a positive significance for elevating YRCTI’s international education level and promoting exchanges in vocational education between China and foreign countries.
