On December 8, the 2023 (6th) “Chinese + Vocational Skills” Academic Exchange Seminar & the Finals of the “Silk Road Chinese” International Chinese Language Teaching Professional Competence Competition, organized by the China Branch of Association of Silk Road Countries Universities and Consulting Companies, the Chinese Bridge Club in Cairo, Egypt, and the Organizing Committee of the EducationPlus International Summit for Vocational Education and Training, was successfully held at YRCTI. Deputy Standing Chairman Jiang Yilin and Secretary-General Dong Jin of the China Branch of Association of Silk Road Countries Universities and Consulting Companies, along with YRCTI’s Vice President Jian Haoran, attended the seminar. In addition, more than 100 participants from 35 higher vocational colleges across China, including leaders, experts, scholars, teachers, and representatives of international students, also attended the seminar.

Jian Haoran delivered a speech, extended his welcome to the attending teachers and students, expressed congratulations to the winners and participants of the competition, and introduced the historical development and achievements of YRCTI. He pointed out that the “Chinese + Vocational Skills” program aims to provide learners with comprehensive Chinese language and vocational skills training to help them better adapt to workplace environments and enhance their career competitiveness. He stated that YRCTI has collaborated with the Ministry of Labor and Skills of Ethiopia and relevant institutions to implement the China-Ethiopia “Chinese + Vocational Skills” program, aiming to cultivate high-quality technical and skilled talents proficient in Chinese for China-invested enterprises and Ethiopia. He further expressed that the high-quality development of the “Chinese + Vocational Skills” education cannot be achieved without the cultivation of a faculty team for the international Chinese language. He also stated that this competition is a beneficial attempt to enhance the capabilities of international Chinese language teachers and plays a crucial role in accelerating the development of a high-quality, multi-skilled faculty team for “Chinese + Vocational Skills” education, promoting the integrated development of international Chinese language education and vocational education, and facilitating the high-standard internationalization of Chinese vocational education standards.

Jiang Yilin introduced the projects carried out by the China Branch of Association of Silk Road Countries Universities and Consulting Companies in 2023 and summarized the outcomes of this “Silk Road Chinese” Competition for International Students and International Chinese Language Teaching Professional Competence Competition. He emphasized that the “Chinese + Vocational Skills” program represents an upgrade and extension of Chinese language education, and during the implementation of this program, it is essential to achieve “three alignments”, specifically, align majors with industries, courses with occupational standards, and teaching processes with production processes. He also noted that the China Branch will focus on international Chinese language training programs to assist participating universities in establishing overseas institutions and to facilitate the progress of international students and other work.

After this, Secretary General of the China Branch of Association of Silk Road Countries Universities and Consulting Companies Dong Jin, presented the annual work report. Xu Yanhe, Chairman of the Chinese Bridge Club in Cairo, Egypt, invited attending universities to actively join various “Chinese Bridge” competitions and activities. Subsequently, the Awarding Ceremony for the “Silk Road Chinese” Competition for International Students and International Chinese Language Teaching Professional Competence Competition was held, along with other events including the publication of the “Chinese + Vocational Skills” topics, expert reports, and experience sharing by the base universities.

The 2023 “Silk Road Chinese” Competition for International Students and International Chinese Language Teaching Professional Competence Competition is organized by the China Branch of Association of Silk Road Countries Universities and Consulting Companies, the Chinese Bridge Club in Cairo, Egypt, and the Organizing Committee of the EducationPlus International Summit for Vocational Education and Training and held by YRCTI, aiming to build a new high-quality development pattern of the “Chinese + Vocational Skills” education and promote high-level openness among vocational universities. This Competition witnessed the attendance of 50 Chinese language teachers from 18 provinces across China, 7 foreign native international Chinese language teachers from the United Kingdom, Kazakhstan, Russia, Indonesia, and Cambodia, as well as 102 international students from 29 countries. YRCTI’s teachers Yang Qian and Ding Xiaoting win the first and third prizes respectively in the “Silk Road Chinese” International Chinese Language Teaching Professional Competence Competition. YRCTI’s Malagasy student, Kariti(卡瑞缇), wins the second prize in the “Silk Road Chinese” Competition for International Students.
