Zhou Baoping introduced YRCTI’s development history, educational achievements, and international development situation. She noted that the friendship between China and Ethiopia has a long history, and in October 2023, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Abiy in Beijing, which further deepened the exchanges and cooperation between the two countries through platforms such as the Belt and Road Initiative and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and strengthened the construction of the China-Africa community with a shared future, providing broad cooperation space and a solid foundation for both universities. She expressed hope that through the “Chinese + Vocational Skills” program, both universities could carry out more pragmatic cooperation to transform it into a demonstration base for international open cooperation, integration of universities and enterprises, as well as the connection between students and teachers, aiming to make positive contributions to the construction of the China-Africa community with a shared future and the friendship between China and Ethiopia.

Muferihat Kamil warmly welcomed the visit of Zhou Baoping and her delegation and highly praised YRCTI’s achievements in talent cultivation and education internationalization. She expressed that in recent years, the comprehensive cooperative partnership between China and Ethiopia has rapidly developed and yielded fruitful results, particularly in the fields of education and culture. The establishment of the “Chinese + Vocational Skills” training base would introduce China’s advanced vocational education experience, which could better empower the development of Ethiopian vocational education, further promote the modernization of Ethiopian vocational education, cultivate more high-quality skilled talents proficient in Chinese for Ethiopia’s local labor market, and significantly enhance the employability of Ethiopian graduates, so as to inject new vitality into the economic development of Ethiopia.

Subsequently, Zhou Baoping and Muferihat Kamil jointly unveiled the nameplate for the Ethiopia “Chinese + Vocational Skills” training base and held productive discussions regarding its future development.

On December 7, Zhou Baoping and her delegation visited the Federal Vocational and Technical Training College of Ethiopia, where they inspected its teaching and practical training bases and facilities, and both universities engaged in detailed discussions about the implementation of the “Chinese + Vocational Skills” program, reaching consensus on areas such as faculty and student exchanges, joint research, and talent cultivation.

The China-Ethiopia “Chinese + Vocational Skills” program is a key China-Ethiopia cooperation project on vocational education initiated by the Ministry of Labor and Skills of Ethiopia and was implemented by 9 vocational institutions from both countries, with its Secretariat established at YRCTI. This program aims to promote the high-quality integrated development of international Chinese language education and vocational education, cultivate high-quality technical and skilled talents proficient in Chinese for China-invested enterprises and Ethiopia, and further advance the exchange and cooperation in vocational education between China and Ethiopia to a higher level, standard, and quality.
